SMME News is a free bilingual (English and IsiZulu) newspaper targeted at informal and formal businesses in the Small, Medium and Micro-Enterprises (SMMES) sector. It is distributed monthly within the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. SMME News aims to equip individuals who want to start their own businesses with the necessary skills and expertise required to succeed. It has been enhancing small business people’s skills through the dissemination of relevant information and advice. It serves as an open forum, a profiling agent and an advocating voice for the SMME stakeholders. SMME News therefore responds to the public policy imperative to enhance capacity building for the local community, especially for previously disadvantaged individuals and SMMEs operating in rural, semi-rural and township environments.
The publication strengthens the cohesion between small enterprises while levelling the playing field between the rural, semi-urban/township and urban small enterprises. SMME News newspaper provides an educational tool to build the capacity of SMMEs and enhance their skills so as to assist them in running and managing their businesses efficiently and effectively. The end is to ensure sustainability and growth thereby creating more job opportunities and contributing towards reducing the high unemployment rates in the country.
