SMME News is a young and dynamic Publishing and Media company targeted at informal and formal small, medium and micro-enterprises (SMME’s). It brings a forum for emerging businesses, aspiring entrepreneurs and all South African business start-ups. It produces a multi-lingual newspaper and runs an online digital platform offering various forms of content and services for small businesses and entrepreneurs.
SMME News was born in 2016 under its parent company, Phumelela Farms and Projects (pty) ltd. It is a member of the Association of Independent Publishers (AIP), South African Small and Medium Enterprise Federation (SASMEF), Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI); and maintains the standards of the South African Press Council. SMME News has been supported by the Media Development & Diversity Agency (MDDA) and AME Africa. It is also incubated by the Smart Xchange ICT Incubator.
SMME News took Best Performing Women of the Year in MICTe in 2018, and Runner up Best Performing Women of the Year in MICTe in 2017 at the Smart Xchange SMME Awards. SMME News has also been privileged to enjoy the visit and endorsement by the parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications in 2017 as SMME News fulfills the South African government’s mandate to promote and develop the SMME sector.
SMMEs create and present an opportunity for more people to participate in the growth of the economy, as well as an opportunity for community members to take responsibility for their own financial well-being. While the democratic process encourages people to take control of their own financial affairs, there is need to empower the local population with the knowledge to achieve this goal; a mandate which SMME News has chosen to fulfill by serving “The Heartbeat Of Small Enterprises”
