In Line with eThekwini’s vision “working towards being Africa”s most liveable city by 2030” and October being transport month,the ethekiwini launched the moja cruise on October 29th 2018 at the Durban ICC.With Mayoral walk and parade from the Durban ICC through market-berea-Durban city hall-ICC.The Moja cruise which was is also a part of the GO Durban initiative,marked a watershed moment for public transport in eThekwini municipality because it is the first in the country.Out of the 500 bus involved in the programme,150 branded taxis paraded the CBD.With attendance by the ethekiwini management Taxi Council(EMTC) and chairperson for the the Human settlements and infrastructure Committee,Councillor Mondi Mthembu.Councillor Mthembu said the aim of the programme was to empower mini-bus taxi industry at all level,progress their businesses and to support the development of the industry towards a more formal service and improving better level of service for commuters also.

Chairperson of the ethekiwini management taxi Council,Nzuza pointed out that such initiative was to find workable solution to the challenges in the industry.The programme has been received in eThekwini five regions.Namely Ningizimu(Isipingo,Umlazi), Durban central,Durban North,Durban West and Durban South.Certificates was awarded by the mayor to the Moja champions from the five regions.The pilot programme will run for six months and will include 500 vehicles.Commuters will be able to rate their trips in Moja cruise taxi as part if the overall offering to endure that the relevant criteria are met by the taxi owners and drivers.
