Orlando Pirates urged reduced the gap between themselves and Mamelodi Sundowns on top of the Absa Premiership log standings following an emphatic 4-2 victory over Chippa United on Sunday, 25 February 2018.

The buccaneers came into this match with a chance to occupy the second spot following Sundowns’ 1-1 draw against Supersport United in the Tshwane Derby on Saturday afternoon. On the same day, another league chasing outfit, Kaizer Chiefs failed to beat Bloemfontein Celtic as the two sides played to a goalless draw.

Currently, the Sea Robbers are on second spot on the log with 36 points, Sundowns are leading the pack with 40 points. Another title contenders, Kaizer Chiefs are currently on third spot with 35 points.

The three frontrunners all have three matches left to play before the curtain falls down on the 2017/18 season.

At the wrong end of the table, Platinum Stars continues to struggle having only collect 17 points after 22 games. This is how the log looks like:
